The Atlanta Business Chronicle, in the July 23, 2010 Law & Accounting publication, recently named Bennett Thrasher as the 5th fastest growing accounting firm by revenue and by professionals.  Bennett Thrasher, with 107 professionals in Atlanta, moved up from 7th in the 2009 publication.

In addition, Bennett Thrasher is the 10th largest accounting firm ranked by number of professionals in Atlanta, moving up from 11th in the 2009 publication. Bennett Thrasher specializes in financial reporting and assurance, tax, business valuation, dispute resolution and forensics, client accounting services, state and local tax and personal financial services.

Bennett Thrasher associates Steve Barth, Patrick Braley and Charles Edge were cited in the July 23, 2010 Law & Accounting section of the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

Steve Barth, chief investment officer of BT Wealth Management, was quoted in the article, “Despite knocks, muni bonds still viable option”.   Barth gives his opinion on the municipal bond markets and associated credit risks.

Patrick Braley, senior manager in the Dispute Resolution and Forensics practice, was quoted in the article, “Tight times keep accounting fraud sleuths busy”.  Braley gives five quick tips on how private and family-owned companies, in particular, can protect themselves from fraudulent activity and discusses how the economy often drives fraud.

BT’s director of transfer pricing, Charles Edge, was quoted in the article, “Going global can attract attention from the IRS”.  Edge discusses developing a strategy and a pricing methodology for transfer pricing and gives his thoughts on areas the IRS is pursuing.

With the Georgia summer heat clearly locked down on us these days, outdoor training has become difficult except for early mornings.  That being said, our BT Track Club members have still been hard at it over the summer.  The largest running event was the annual Peachtree Road Race, and we once again had double digit participation, with some impressive times given the unusually cool weather on July 4th this year.

In addition, our triathletes  have been quite active, with extremely competitive finishes in the Ironman Coeur d’Alene in Idaho, Olympic distance races including St. Anthony’s in St. Petersburg Florida, West Point Lake in West Point Georgia, as well as Rev3 in Knoxville, Tennessee. 

Congratulations to all of our Track Club participants for their accomplishments so far this summer.

Coming  soon-  Our members have their sights set on several races including Ironman Louisville in August, the Silver Comet ½ Marathon in October, and the Nashville Country Music Marathon and ½ Marathon.  In addition, Bennett Thrasher is a corporate sponsor this year for the annual Frogtown Trail Challenge on October 2 in Cumming Ga..  The Frogtown Trail Challenge includes a 4 mile and a 10 mile race, and will be quite the challenge.  Below is a quote from the race’s main website www.christianrunners.org/frogtown/

Atlanta CPA Firm Bennett Thrasher announces the promotion of Jonathan Swartz to Shareholder.

Jonathan Swartz is a Shareholder in the firm’s Personal Financial Services practice.  He has experience providing financial advice to attorneys, corporate executives, family business owners and other high net worth clients on income tax, estate and gift tax, investment, insurance, and retirement planning.

Additionally, Swartz has experience in individual, partnership, S-Corporation, foundation, and fiduciary income taxation.

Prior to joining Bennett Thrasher, Swartz worked for the Atlanta office of KPMG LLP as a Senior Tax Manager in their Private Client Advisory Services (PCAS) practice. Swartz earned his Bachelor of Business Administration (Accounting) degree from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University and his Master of Taxation from the Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University. Swartz is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed in Georgia, Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), and Personal Financial Specialist (PFS).

Swartz is a member of the Personal Financial Planning section of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Georgia Society of CPAs (GSCPA), the Atlanta Estate Planning Council, the Georgia Planned Giving Council, the Financial Planning Association, and serves as Secretary/Treasurer of the Atlanta Chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals.

His community involvement includes service with Temple Sinai, the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta, and as the Treasurer of the Epsilon of Kappa Alpha Order Alumni Advisory Board. 

Bennett Thrasher announces the promotion of Rick Rosell to Principal.

Rick Rosell is a Principal with over fourteen years of experience in providing tax advisory and compliance services.  He has broad experience with corporate taxation specializing in tax compliance and FAS 109/income tax provision preparation and review. Additionally, Rosell has experience in individual, partnership and S-Corporation taxation.

Rosell began his career with a local Atlanta firm in its tax and assurance practices serving privately-owned manufacturers and automotive dealerships.  In addition to his experience with Bennett Thrasher PC, Rosell worked with Arthur Andersen LLP in its Federal Tax Practice in Charlotte, North Carolina.  While at Arthur Andersen, Rosell had extensive experience with manufacturers, start-up ventures, and construction contractors.

Rosell earned his Bachelor of Science (Accounting) degree with honors from the University of Florida. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed in the state of Georgia since 1997. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Georgia Society of CPAs within its Taxation Sections.

Rosell is also actively involved in the community with both Habitat for Humanity and Junior Achievement.
