Peter Stathopoulos, Director of Bennett Thrasher's State and Local Tax service line, spoke at the Film Finance, Packaging and Distribution Workshop at the 2009 Peachtree Village International Film Festival in downtown Atlanta. The workshop was held on Saturday, September 26th at Underground Atlanta. Peter was joined at the workshop by Bernard Coleman of Womble Carlyle, Landria Onkka of The Advisory Group, and Cheryl Jenkins, a financial consultant to the entertainment industry. The workshop was moderated by Corey Dade, a staff reporter in the Atlanta bureau of the Wall Street Journal.
The workshop was geared specifically towards independent producers of film, theater, and electronic media. Topics discussed included how to successfully navigate and utilize state film and entertainment tax credits and incentives as a component of your film finances, prospecting and researching investors, proper legal and financial representation and building a long term strategy with investors.
